Chamonix Day 1 : Montroc - La Flegere - Les Praz

We arrived the night before from Geneva at 10pm so it was really dark. Was so surprised when I rolled the curtains in the morning. The view was incredible.

Where we stayed in Chamonix, very nice location. Bus stops are right down the building.

Short walk to the Chamonix little town to find breakfast. My husband was intrigued to see people skiing in May.

Breakfast and coffee secured!

Time to find a spot for breakfast.

Found our spot!

Even store bought croissants are so good here!

Husband went in to ask if they can fix his rain jacket, and also to get a patch #iykyk

All fueled up and ready for our first hike! (We actually had no idea which hike to do that day)

Bus stop view (which is next to our hotel).

We hop off at Montroc.

The starting point. We started hiking at 1pm because why not…

5 minutes in, my husband already went β€œWhat can we do, for career, if we want to live here?”

One millennial pose wont hurt right?

First snack break. Remember to always pack in-out! Do not leave anything behind, even a banana peel.

We were still quite unsure of our route at this point, and have yet to bump into another hiker(s) but we continued going towards Chamonix, which was down this path.

The only place going towards Chamonix was La Flegere so that’s where we’re going I guess?

Pulled up to a waterfall and we had to cross it. That’s a nice surprise.

He went first to make sure the ladder was secure enough, otherwise we would turn around.

Yes I made it to the other side. It was quite nerve wrecking especially when looking down.

I came to Chamonix with only one thing in mind; to see wild ibex and it came right in front of us when we were looking for a map online (since we were still deciding whether to go down at that point or continue to La Flegere) and the phone reception was quite bad up there.

I was making sure the ibex did not come close.

Bumped into a local lady at this point and she told to be careful because there were a lot of snow up in La Flegere.

We saw another ibex!

She was not kidding when she said a lot of snow!

Lunch view.

3 gen z girls approached us, offered to take our photos. She took A LOT! One even showed us the Strava map of this hike route and said β€œit’s all downhill from now on.” That was enough reference for us to keep going.

β€œYou guys have come all this way up. Let me take photos of you guys. Too bad Mont Blanc is covered with clouds now.” She was so nice. In gen z we trust!

The 3 gen z girls.

We were supposed to follow Les Praz.

The descend was no joke. And spotted a couple reading by the side of the gravel road, quite unhinged to be very frank but I enjoyed the rare occurrence of people throughout the hike.

Spotted another ibex!

I love it when the signage showed the time as well.

Keep going down down down.

Finally some flat stretch after non stop descend which was brutal to them knees.

Made it to Les Praz!

Waited quite a while for a bus back but none showed up.

Walked to the third bus stop.

Free compost for the public!

Finally in a bus. Guess the buses back to Chamonix weren’t as frequent as buses out.

We know for sure our knees will be hurting so bad the next day (where the big hike was supposed to happen).

Throwing out the food waste from our hike.
